Want to be happy? Be grateful | David Steindl-Rast

“If you are grateful, you act out of a sense of enough, and not of a sense of scarcity”
Brother David Steindl-Rast

In this video, Brother David Steindl-Rast explores the connection between happiness and gratitude - or living gratefully as he so beautifully describes it.

His method for living gratefully is simple: Stop. Look. Go.

Our constant rushing through life means we miss the opportunities presented to us in every moment.

Stop: Brother David invites us to ‘build stop signs in our lives’. Create signals or reminders that prompt you to stop.

Look: Once stopped, use all your senses to take in the moment and open your heart to the opportunities that surround you.

Go: with an open heart, move forward and take action based on the opportunity life has presented to you at that moment.

He recognises that sometimes the opportunity in the moment may be a challenging one, or one a learning opportunity - but recognising and being grateful for that opportunity is key.

It is such a beautifully simple message.
